For years reports came in of the Giant Panda. Laughed off as people said to be seeing things. The first solid evidence came in 1869 when a French missionary named Armand David took possession of a skin from a hunter.
The first report of a person to have actually seen the Panda was from German zoologist Hugo Weingold who purchased a cub back in 1916. The first to shoot a panda was Kermit and Theodore Roosevelt Jr. on an expedition that was funded by Field Museum of National History back in the 1920's.
The one was brought bring back, which was a cub was in 1936 by Ruth Harkness who named the cub "Su Lin" It went to reside at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago.
