For years reports came in of the Giant Panda. Laughed off as people said to
be seeing things. The first solid evidence came in 1869 when a French missionary named
Armand David took possession of a skin from a hunter.
The first report of a person to have actually seen the Panda was from
German zoologist Hugo Weingold who purchased a cub back in 1916. The first
to shoot a panda was Kermit and Theodore Roosevelt Jr. on an
expedition that was funded by Field Museum of National History back in the
1920's.
The one was brought bring back, which was a cub was in 1936 by Ruth Harkness who named the cub "Su Lin" It went to reside at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago.
The Coelacanth was thought to have been extend for approximately 65
million years. One was discovered in 1938 by a fisherman of the east coast of
South Africa. A chemistry professor JBL Smith conformed that famous catch with a
cable reading "MOST IMPORTANT PRESERVE SKELETON AND GILLS = FISH
DESCRIBED."
Coelacanth are related to lungfish and tetrapods, as
mentioned believed to have become extinct since the end of the Cretaceous
period.
Since 1938 they have been found in Kenya, Comoros, Tanzania,
Mozambique, Madagascar, and also Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa, plus other
locations.
